This is the result of one Gulf Hurricane and a little consumer panic in Kingsport, Tennessee. Early Friday morning every business in town had plenty of gas at an average retail of $3.59. By the end of the day prices were up to $4.19 and most stations were sold out. America's energy needs are hanging by a thread. Not only are we at the mercy of the weather, but we hold our breath hoping everything works perfect every day in every country and that some oil-rich African or Arab or South American country doesn't fall into a civil war, have an earthquake, declare war on the U.S. or Israel or experience any kind of hiccup that would result in a major disruption of desperately needed oil supplies. We have managed to turn over the responsibility of our nation's energy needs and our national security over to every Tom, Dick and Harry all over the world.
Who we elect this November to be president and control congress will determine our energy policy for years to come. Barrack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are against expanding off-shore drilling, drilling in A.N.W.R, building new nuclear power plants and mining more coal.
The Federal government is already pouring $40 Billion a year into subsidizing Ethanol production which is a massive joke. This is inefficient technology that is rapidly using up our food-grain supplies.
The Democrats have NO ANSWERS.
The Republicans have called for increased DRILLING OFF-SHORE, IN A.N.W.R., NEW NUCLEAR PLANTS, NEW OIL REFINERIES, AND INCREASED COAL MINING. New technology can continue to be worked on while we meet our current energy needs.
The bottom line is: If our current oil supplies suddenly dry up we quickly become a third world country thrown into chaos with electricity, transportation and food shortages.
