At this point in my life I rarely get really mad or upset. However, I am boiling over Congressman Rick Boucher's (D - VA) Sept 15 vote to censure Congressman Joe Wilson (R - SC). Wilson shouted " You Lie!" during president Obama's address to a joint session of congress. Following the speech, Wilson called the White House and apologized to the president for his passionate outburst. The next day Obama publicly said the apology was accepted and wished to put it behind him and move on. However this wasn't good enough for House speaker Nancy Pelosi. She demanded that Wilson apologize to the entire House of Representatives. Wilson made his position clear; He had a apoligized to the most powerful person in the United States and there would be no further apologies offered. The following Tuesday, in a move to publicly embarrass Congressman Wilson, the House passed a ' Vote of Disapproval ' by a vote of 240 - 179. Voting with the Democratic majority was Rick Boucher. At 10:00 a.m. the following day I called Congressman Boucher's Washington office to confirm his 'yes' vote. I had an almost unbelievable conversation with one of his staff members. She told me staff members were not allowed to even confirm how Mr. Boucher votes until he personally talks to them afterward explaining his reason for his position on every vote. I reminded her that this was a public vote in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress and I wasn't asking for an explanation but only a confirmation of his 'Yes' vote. The staffer told me that other than checking his web site, which I had already done, for a record of his vote, there was absolutely no way that a private citizen could access the information I sought. As of Sept. 17 there is still no record on his official web site of his vote . I could not personally talk to Mr. Boucher and I could not talk to anyone else on his staff.
Boucher's 'yes' vote shows what a partisan political hypocrite he really is. Rick Boucher has served in the House of representatives for 26 years. During all those years he has also served the entire time with Charlie Rangel (D - NY). Rangel, who chairs the Ways and Means committee which writes U.S. tax laws, has been under investigation for the last two years for fraud and income tax evasion. On August 1, 2008, Rick Boucher voted to kill a measure in the House that would have censured Charlie Rangel. Rangel has never offered an apology for his actions.
As Boucher seeks re-election every two years he comes to Southwest Virginia and talks about representing our values. I don't think so. Mr. Boucher, " You Lie!" Here is where he really stands on the issues.According to www.ontheissues.org he votes with the Democrat leadership (Nancy Pelosi) 98.2 % of the time. He receives a 100 % rating from the ACLU. He receives a 100 % rating from NARAL ( a national pro-abortion group) and a 0 % rating from NRLC(National Right To Life). I find nothing in his voting record that represents my Christian values. I can promise Mr. Boucher one thing. If a conservative opponent will step forward to challenge him, I will do everything in my power to to see that this spineless hypocrite will be sent home for good.
I did tell his staffer that probably the reason for the delay for explaining his vote to censure Joe Wilson was he hadn't had a chance to meet with Speaker Pelosi to get his marching orders for the day.
